Henri Wieniawski (1835-1880) was a Polish-born composer and virtuoso violinist. He attended the Paris Conservatory at the age of 8 and was well known as a concert performer throughout Europe and Russia. In 1860, he was chosen as the violin soloist for the Tsar of Russia, and was later a teacher at the St.Petersburg Conservatory, as well as the Brussels Conservatory.

His romantic-style compositions for violin are quite numerous and include 2 concerti, etudes-caprices, mazurkas, variations, and other pieces de salon. His compositions are virtuosic in nature but also filled with passionate lyricism and melodious lines. His works reflect the influence of other composers such as Vieuxtemps and Paganini.
