Achille Claude Debussy (1862-1818) was a leading French Impressionist composer who studied both composition and piano at the Paris Conservatory, eventually choosing to focus on composition and giving up on his initial desire to become a concert pianist. He enjoyed the company of leading French impressionist painters and poets of his time, and Debussy's compositions include orchestral works such as the famous Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, an opera, a string quartet, 24 piano preludes, as well as many other works and pieces de salon for the piano.
